Indoor Air
The purpose of the Saginaw County Clean Indoor Air Regulation is to protect the public’s health and welfare by eliminating smoking in public and private worksites and public places, not including bars and restaurants. Nonsmokers who are regularly exposed to secondhand smoke suffer death rates 30 percent higher than unexposed nonsmokers. Secondhand smoke is proven to cause heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema and asthma. It is especially dangerous to children, infants and unborn babies because their lungs are still developing. This regulation supports the need to protect Saginaw County residents from the dangers of secondhand smoke.
The Saginaw County Board of Commissioners adopted the Saginaw County Clean Indoor Air Regulation on Tuesday, April 25, 2006. The regulation, designed to eliminate the hazards of secondhand smoke in most public places, will go into effect July 24, 2006.
