Blood Lead Testing
The Blood Lead Testing Program at the SCHD targets children 1 through 5 years of age.
Tests are usually recommended for children at 1 and 2 years of age. This age-group is most vulnerable due to the child’s developmental stage—crawling and putting items in their mouth.
Michigan policy requires that all Medicaid-covered children be tested for blood lead at 12 and 24 months of age. In addition, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) mandates that if a Medicaid-covered child is between the ages of 36 and 72 months of age and has not previously been tested for blood lead, the child must be tested.
